Councils and other relevant entities are reminded that from 1 March 2020, the Children’s Guardian Act 2019 will commence, and the Office of the Children’s Guardian will administer the Reportable Conduct Scheme.
Under the Act, councils and other relevant entities are required to have systems in place for identifying, receiving and responding to ‘reportable allegations’ of abuse against children and for preventing reportable conduct.
Councils and other relevant entities may need to update or develop child protection and reporting policies and procedures to meet compliance obligations under the Scheme.
The head of the relevant entity will be required to give a written notice to the Children’s Guardian within seven business days of becoming aware of a reportable allegation or a reportable conviction. Forms for this purpose will be available on the website of the Office of the Children’s Guardian from 1 March 2020 when the new Act commences.
Further information is available on the OCG’s website.
