Red Tape Removed for Bushfire-Affected Councils in NSW

The NSW Government has approved a specific exemption for NSW councils from tendering requirements to save time and resources when undertaking bushfire-related works.

Councils are now exempt from tendering requirements for bushfire-related contracts valued up to $500,000 until 1 July 2020, up from the standard $250,000 threshold in the Local Government Act.

Although councils must still ensure they are getting value for money for ratepayers, by cutting down on paperwork this exemption provides bushfire-affected councils with greater certainty and enables them to respond more quickly by going straight to local businesses for urgent bushfire protection, recovery and remediation operations.
